About Diana Gabaldon
History. Warfare. Sex. Violence. Honor. Betrayal. Vengeance. Hope. Despair. These are just some of the things you will find in #1 New York Times bestselling author Diana Gabaldon’s blockbuster Outlander novels, which have been described by Salon.com as “the smartest historical sci-fi adventure-romance story ever written by a science Ph.D. with a background in scripting ‘Scrooge McDuck’ comics.” Outlander was adapted into an award-winning Starz original series and is currently in its sixth season. The latest chapter of this epic series, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, brings the readers to the American Revolution.
Spanning time, space, and genres, Gabaldon’s ambitious books have won critical and popular acclaim across the globe with their crossover appeal. In 2006, Diana Gabaldon won the Quill Award (beating out novels by George R.R. Martin and Stephen King) and the Corine International Prize for Fiction. She has gained an even greater following with the release of the television series adaptation, spearheaded by Ronald D. Moore (of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek fame).
In addition to the Outlander books, Diana Gabaldon is the author of a bestselling series featuring Lord John Grey, a graphic novel, and one work of nonfiction. There are 25 million copies of Gabaldon’s books in print worldwide, published in 34 languages in 38 countries. She has also written numerous comic-book scripts for Walt Disney.
Gabaldon holds three degrees in science: Zoology, Marine Biology, and Quantitative Behavioral Ecology, and spent a dozen years as a university professor with an expertise in scientific computation before writing fiction. She has written scientific articles and textbooks, worked as a contributing editor on the MacMillan Encyclopedia of Computers, and founded the scientific-computation journal Science Software Quarterly.
She and her husband, Douglas Watkins, have three adult children and live in Scottsdale, Arizona. You can read more about Gabaldon and her books at her personal website, www.dianagabaldon.com

The Outlander Series: An “Accidental” Phenomenon
As Diana Gabaldon has often explained, the Outlander series started by accident, when she decided to write a novel for practice. What ensued were eight novels with unforgettable characters and rich historical details that have captured the hearts of millions of fans. In this lecture, Gabaldon talks about how she came to write the Outlander series, the creation of the two remarkable characters of Claire Beauchamp and Jamie Fraser, and what it’s like working with Starz on the television adaptation of the novels. An unrivaled storyteller, Gabaldon’s lectures are filled with humor, wit, and fascinating anecdotes.
