Opening Keynote
Simran Jeet Singh will kick off the 2023 SXSW Conference on March 10 as this year’s Opening Speaker. Singh is the author of The Light We Give: How Sikh Wisdom Can Transform Your Life and the executive director of the Aspen Institute’s Religion and Society Program.
Featured Sessions
Valerie June is a Grammy-nominated, Tennessee-born, and Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter who has been recording and performing since she was 19 years old. At SXSW 2023, she will be talking about The Revolutionary Power of Creativity.
Taylor Jenkins Reid will join the cast and creators of the new Prime Video series Daisy Jones & The Six, based on Reid’s #1 New York Times bestseller, for a featured session. The book and series offer a riveting fictionalized look at an iconic band that imploded at the height of its success. Reid is the author of multiple addictively-readable bestsellers, including her latest book Carrie Soto is Back, inspired by Serena Williams’ Grand Slam record.
Cheryl Strayed is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir Wild which inspired the Oscar-nominated hit movie starring Reese Witherspoon. At SXSW 2023, she will join a featured session to talk about the Hulu adaptation of her bestselling book Tiny Beautiful Things, a collection of her widely popular Dear Sugar advice column.
Session Highlights
John Hendrickson will join fellow writers and memoirists for a conversation on life, craft, and community in the session, The Making of A Memoir. Hendrickson is a staff writer for The Atlantic and the author of Life on Delay: Making Peace with a Stutter.
Anne Helen Petersen took part in a conversation as part of SXSW EDU on Work Appropriate: Your Workplace Is Not Your Family that is available here. The co-author of Out of Office, Petersen dissects our current relationship with work and encourages companies and employees to use this post-pandemic inflection point to experiment with new models to make people and organizations happier, more productive, and more profitable.
Adam Davidson is an award-winning New Yorker writer, the co-creator of NPR’s Planet Money podcast, and the author of The Passion Economy, a timely book that illuminates how the 21st-century economic paradigm offers new ways of making money, fresh paths toward professional fulfillment, and unprecedented opportunity. Davidson will be moderating the panel How LatAm Creators Generate Inclusion and Income which will look at unique aspects of the creator economy in Brazil.
