Continuing from where the first story left off, in Clare’s upcoming sequel The Ragpicker King, Lin and Kel must chart a perilous course between love and lies. In order to protect his beloved prince, Kel Saren must find the culprits responsible for a massacre at the royal palace—and the only clues are held by the Ragpicker King, the notorious criminal who rules Castellane’s underworld. The magic in the Sword Catcher series is inspired partly by Jewish folklore and mythology, stories Clare grew up hearing from her grandparents and great-grandparents.
Clare’s first YA novel, City of Bones, was an instant bestseller on the New York Times list and beyond. Following its success, she went on to complete the trilogy with City of Ashes and City of Glass, as well as the subsequent second trilogy, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls, and City of Heavenly Fire. In 2013, City of Bones was adapted into a film, which was nominated for 11 awards, winning several including the Golden Screen Award, Best Visual Effects, Best Makeup, and more at the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards. In addition to this series, Clare co-authored the bestselling Magisterium middle-grade series with her best friend, Holly Black.
Born to American parents in Teheran, Iran, Clare spent much of her childhood moving and travelling the world with her family. She found comfort in reading books, which is where her longtime interest in magic and fantasy stems from. After graduating from college, Clare lived in both Los Angeles and New York, working at various entertainment magazines and bookstores before starting her first novel. She now lives in Western, MA with her husband and four cats.
